Okay, I admit it. Calling my bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich, The Best BLT Sandwiches, is a bit grandiose. Because if you are a BLT sandwich lover, than probably 95% of the BLT sandwiches you have ever eaten in your life are good. There aren’t many ways to screw it up. Unless, of course, you burn the bacon!
But, here’s the thing: mine are The Best because I only use The Best ingredients when I make them! Of course, it’s based on my personal taste, but I use the following:
-
a certain type of bread; I use Alpine Valley’s Organic Multi-Grain Bread, which I buy at Costco. This bread, when toasted, has a delicious, chewy texture that contributes to the overall satisfaction of the diner’s mouth-feel as you eat the sandwich.
-
full-fat mayonnaise. This isn’t a sandwich to skip on calories and use a lighter version. Go full-fat, or go home! Save calories by not eating chips!
-
the freshest iceberg lettuce; select the choicest leaves to offer a bright freshness and a satisfying crunch.
-
thick-sliced bacon, cooked to perfection, which for me is just slightly under crisp. I like slightly chewy bacon.
-
Finally, the tomato. The biggest, freshest, reddest tomato I can buy! Plus, I cut my tomato in large slabs, half-inch slices. That first bite, and subsequent bites, of sandwich is all about tasting the juicy tomato melding with the mayo and the bacon. Yum!
Yep, only five ingredients – it couldn’t be easier. But, for The Best BLT Sandwiches, it is all about the ingredients. Let me spell that out for you {grin}: all.about.the.ingredients!
Look how big that slice of tomato is! It covers the whole slice of bread AND it’s a half-inch thick! You can hardly see the bacon, but trust me, it’s there. Every almost-crisp, chewy bite of salty deliciousness!
Here’s the recipe:
The Best BLT Sandwiches
With 5, 5-Star ingredients, you too can have The Best BLT Sandwiches! It’s all about the ingredients!
- Prep Time: 5 mins
- Cook Time: 10 mins
- Total Time: 15 mins
- Yield: 1 1x
- Category: Sandwich
- Cuisine: American
Ingredients
- 2 slices of Alpine Valley Organic Multi-Grain Bread, lightly toasted
- 2 tablespoons full-fat mayonnaise
- 1 one-half-inch slice of a large, fresh, red, juicy tomato
- 1 leaf of crisp iceberg lettuce
- 2 slices of thick-sliced bacon, cooked until almost crisp, each piece cut in half
Instructions
- After toasting the bread, spread one tablespoon of mayonnaise on each slice.
- Add the sliced tomato to one slice of bread.
- Add the iceberg lettuce on top of the tomato.
- Layer the bacon halves on top of the lettuce.
- Cover with second slice of bread, press down firmly and cut the sandwich in half.
- Enjoy!
I prefer my sandwich layered in this fashion:
- bread covered with mayonnaise
- tomato
- lettuce
- bacon
- bread covered with mayonnaise
That way, the tomato is next to the mayonnaise on one end and the bacon is next to the mayonnaise on the other end. But, hey, that’s my choice; maybe you prefer the bacon and tomato next to each other! And, my dad always said I made the best sandwiches! The Best; I’m just sayin’!
In any case, remember: it’s all about the ingredients! Choose the best ones!
