What do you do?  You make Easy Homemade Barbecue Sauce!  This DIY BBQ sauce recipe is ketchup-based with several spices and 2 surprise ingredients.  All these flavors meld together to make the best BBQ sauce ever for ribs, chicken, and other grill favorites.  This sauce takes minutes to throw together. A great alternative when you don’t have bottled barbecue sauce around! It’s delicious with just the right balance of sweet and tangy.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons dried sliced onions
  • 1 teaspoon steak seasoning
  • 1/8 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 tablespoons whiskey

Instructions

  1. In saucepan, heat olive oil over medium-low heat.
  2. Add spices (onions, steak seasoning, cumin, crushed red pepper flakes, granulated garlic) and saute for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  3. Add ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and honey and increase heat to medium, stirring to combine.
  4. Cook over medium heat about 3 minutes, stirring constantly.
  5. Remove from heat and add whiskey.
  6. Return to heat, bring to a boil, stir and then remove from heat.
  7. Serve on the side or use on your favorite ribs, steak, chicken, pork chops, etc.
