Sweet, chewy and delicious with a hint of orange!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package of yellow cake mix (I used the butter recipe type)
  • 1 cup of old-fashioned oats, uncooked
  • ½ cup butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • Zest of one orange (keep the orange for another use)
  • 1 14 ounce can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup of white chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Lightly grease a 9″ x 13″ baking pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  3. In a bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk and the orange zest and set aside.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the cake mix, oatmeal, vanilla, butter and egg.
  5. Mix until it forms a dough, then measure out 1 cup and set aside.
  6. Press the remaining batter into the baking dish and bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes.
  7. While that’s baking, in yet another mixing bowl, combine the reserved dough with the white chocolate chips.
  8. When crust comes out of the oven, pour the orange zest/sweetened condensed milk mixture over the crust.
  9. Add the dough/white chocolate chip topping over the orange zest/sweetened condensed milk mixture in little globs using fingers.
  10. Bake in preheated 375 degree oven for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown (check at the 20 minute marker).
  11. Remove from oven and cool for 20 minutes.
  12. After 20 minutes, run knife around edge of baking pan to loosen cookie bars from the pan.
  13. Continue cooling until completely cold to the touch.
  14. Cut into 24 bars.
