Guess what? These yummy little cream cheese balls are crammed full with goodness! Let me explain…
I’ve had this obsession with Bacon Jalapeno Chutney ever since I made it the first time several years ago. The salty bits of bacon, mixed with the sweetness from the caramelized onions kicked up a notch with the ever so slight bit of heat from the fresh jalapeno peppers = a combination that satisfies many cravings!
These yummy little cream cheese balls crammed full of goodness are the perfect cream cheese appetizer for game day. Stuffed with bacon and jalapeno chutney then rolled in nuts, they are irresistibly good! #appetizers #gameday #bacon Click To TweetAnyway, ever since creating my Bacon Jalapeno Chutney, I’ve been working on ways to use it. You see, I’ve always loved chutney, especially Major Grey’s Chutney, as far back as I can remember.
My dad was an Air Force pilot and traveled the world. He loved to cook and when he was home from his travels, he’d spend hours recreating dishes he’d encountered in other countries. Although he never made chutney from scratch, he’d buy a bottle of Major Grey’s Chutney to have on hand and served it as an accompaniment to grilled meats.
And, that’s the way I’ve always eaten chutney – as an accompaniment to grilled meats. So, I’ve decided to expand my horizons and develop new ways to use my new concoction. Here’s what I’ve created so far:
- Bacon Jalapeno Chutney Bites
- Bacon Jalapeno Chutney Quesadillas
- Blue Jack Turkey Sliders with Bacon Jalapeno Chutney
And, with the addition of these yummy little cream cheese balls, the list is growing!
How to Make These Yummy Little Cream Cheese Balls
These yummy little cream cheese balls are so simple, it’s a shame not to make them. The hardest thing is making the Bacon Jalapeno Chutney recipe first so that you have Bacon Jalapeno Chutney on-hand. But even that recipe is super easy – slicing onions, bacon, and jalapeno and frying them together until the onion caramelizes – so easy!
Then, to create these little delectable morsels, all you do is mix a portion of Bacon Jalapeno Chutney with softened cream cheese, shape them into little bite-sized balls, then roll them into chopped pecans and refrigerate them. Easy to make ahead for your next party! The perfect cream cheese appetizer for game day, these little bacon cheese balls rolled in nuts are sure winners!

Note to Bloggers, especially Food Bloggers
A note to bloggers, especially food bloggers (if you aren’t a blogger or thinking of becoming a blogger, you can skip right to the recipe; unless that is, you are curious about what I’m going to say…):
You (bloggers) may be curious about the name of this recipe. This recipe was originally published on this blog on July 29, 2014, under the title “Bacon Jalapeno Chutney Cream Cheese Balls.” I think it’s safe to say that the majority of food bloggers (and maybe this is true of most bloggers) know nothing about nothing when you first start out. You work very hard learning a new language (words like: plugin, widget, meta description, SEO, tags, categories, slug – the list goes on) and understanding how all of these things work together and impact your blog. You also learn that it’s important to get your blog post/recipe out there in the world because if no one visits your blog then what’s the point?
Anyway, one of the things you learn is that headlines are important and things like “power” words, “emotional” words, “common” words, and “uncommon” words all play a role in attracting readers to click your link. In the world of blogging, lists, how to’s, and questions tend to drive more readers to your site than other types of headlines. However, most food bloggers don’t want to name every recipe something like this, “How to Make Cream Cheese Balls,” because, after all, how boring would that be?
Let me tell you, dear readers, it’s extremely hard to name a recipe that doesn’t include a running list of ingredients that also contains power words, emotional words, and common and uncommon words! But, with a little work, you can come up with something that might move you up the ladder in terms of grabbing a reader’s interest. CoSchedule, a social media and marketing company, has developed a Headline Analyzer Tool that is free to use (you can, of course, sign-up to use their paid services, too). I learned about this headline analyzer tool from another blogger, so I thought I’d share with other bloggers this cool and free tool to help you write better headlines. Food Bloggers – don’t be discouraged; it’s extremely hard to name a recipe using this tool and score above 70. The title of this post scored 71 after about 12 attempts. Both my original title (Bacon Jalapeno Chutney Cream Cheese Balls) and my first attempt at a new title (Nut-Crusted Bacon-Blessed Cream Cheese Balls) came in with a miserable score of 39!

Since I’m not a pecan fan; I wonder if there is another item the cream cheese ball can be rolled in to make the outer layer…hmmm we’ll have to ponder it a bit. 🙂
