Your house is a place where you are supposed to be able to relax after a long day at work. Or, a place where you can invite friends and family over for dinner on Sunday night. However, that is difficult to do if you home is always a mess. How can cleaning your home and keeping it clean improve your mental and physical health?
[convertkit form=5279526]Take Pride in Your Clean Home
Homes typically cost anywhere from $100,000 to $500,000, representing the largest investment you will ever make in your life. Therefore, you should need little encouragement to take pride in your house and keep it as clean as possible.
While you don’t need to spend all of your spare time washing windows or cleaning out the attic, you should dedicate at least an hour or two a week to basic cleaning. For instance, you may want to spend a few minutes each day vacuuming, sweeping the kitchen and dusting.
If you have dehydrated food or other supplies in a freezer or shed, make sure they are stored at a proper temperature and not getting too much sun or moisture. You may also want to spend time on outdoor tasks such as mowing the grass or tending a garden. Doing so can increase indoor air quality and make it less likely that bugs or rodents will make your home their home, too.
Air Quality Can Impact Your Physical Health
If dust is allowed to linger in the air, it could make it harder to breath without wheezing or suffering from an asthma attack. Dust can also exacerbate any allergies you may have, leading to fatigue and an inability to be productive. If you have pets, brush or otherwise groom them to keep dander and fur out of the air.
Be on the lookout for mold or mildew that likes to grow in dark and damp areas such as an attic or basement. Once it takes hold, it can be spread through the home through the HVAC system. Therefore, regular duct cleanings can help keep mold spores or other airborne irritants at bay. Working with grout cleaning services can help keep bathrooms and kitchens free from mold.
Wake up to a Bright Cheery Home
A clean home is one where you can’t wait to wake up in the morning and start your day. When you open the curtains, all you will see is bright sunshine coming through your clean windows and streaming across your lemon-scented floors. If you have trees or plants outside, their natural pine scent and other fragrances will help you wake up first thing in the morning.
From there, you can enjoy a cup of coffee on your deck overlooking the colorful and manicured lawn. Afterwards, you can take a relaxing shower or bath in your clean bathroom that is free from mold. It will also be at a reasonable temperature because you have properly insulated that space both inside and out. Caulking your windows or replacing them with energy efficient windows can help to regulate the temperature.

After you have had your coffee and your shower, you can head to work or a social event relaxed and full of energy. Instead of dreading your friends or in-laws coming over later that night for dinner or to watch the game, you look forward to spending time with loved ones. Plus, imagine how impressed they will be with your maintenance skills!
When your home is clean, it makes it easier for you to start your day off right and to relax and unwind before you go to sleep. While it may take some time and effort to keep up with your household chores, the long-term benefits of a clean home are more than worth that investment.
