Macksville, Kansas-that’s where my dad grew up for the majority of his childhood. As a child, my dad took me back for several visits. I have many fond memories of Kansas; it’s very different from where we live. Macksville is a town of only about 550 residents. Everyone knows one another; there is one school that educates the children from Kindergarten through their Senior year of High School. There is one paved road named “Main Street”.
This spring my grandmother turned 90! We were lucky to be able to surprise her in the summer and celebrate this milestone with a party and a family reunion. I hadn’t been back to Kansas for 19 years! My dad, sister, cousin, the girls and I were lucky to be able to go for this special occasion. I was so happy to be able to take this trip and bring the Princesses P to see a different part of our country and meet a special part of our family. It was an amazing experience!
We arrived at my Aunt Debbie’s and Uncle George’s house where we were staying. We were greeted by them and my cousins. They also had some surprise guests…kittens!! The Princesses P were in kitty-cat heaven! They each claimed one immediately and all they wanted to do was to hold and play with these little cats.
The days that followed were wonderful; it was as if time just slowed down. I got to give my family 100% of me and relax too! We went to visit Grandma, where the girls played and rode the same tricycle that I rode as a child. They played in the old mustang that is parked out front, the first car my sister and I ever drove when we were too young to drive! We went to the community pool and swam in the same pool where I spent many hours during summer visits. We went to the park and took walks; the simple life. And, of course, the surprise birthday party and a traditional Russian BBQ/Family Reunion.
