“Use what talents you possess. The woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sang best.” – Henry Van Dyke
The swallows arrived March 5th. Amazing and talented, these birds sing a beautiful twittering coo that sets them apart from the other birds living on our land. Not quite sure that I agree with the part of Henry Van Dyke’s quote that says “except those that sang best” because I think all birds sing beautifully, even our screeching crows {grin}.
This is the 5th year the swallows have made our home their summer residence. Every year, in early March, the swallows arrive at our house all the way from Argentina. Yep, 6,000 miles! I’m in awe of these incredible creatures. I’ve written about our swallow population many times on this blog and you can read other swallow stories, and see a few videos, in these posts:

And, I’ve written about the others birds that visit us:

As well as ones that visit our area of the country:
I guess you could say I like birds {grin}. But, I don’t have any birds as pets. Because I have a cat {grin}. A boy named Coco. By the way, he’s an indoor cat, so no chance of him messing with my bird sanctuary outside {grin}.
Coco loves the birds, too. They give him endless hours of enjoyment as his head bobs side-to-side watching their nest-building shenanigans. I would guess that our flock of swallows numbers at least 50. They are hard to count because they rarely sit still during their nest-building frenzy!
I’ll report back in a few months with the completed number of nests this year. In the meantime, the swallows continue to use the talents they possess…
