“To look forward and not back, to look out and not in, and to lend a hand.” – Edward Everette Hale
I love this sculpture. She epitomizes grace. One hand uplifted with seeds in its palm, ready to scatter to the birds and chickens at her feet. The other arm holding a child on her hip. And, an adoring dog waiting; and watching.
She’s quite tall – slightly larger than life, so taller than me. And, she graces the entrance to an old hall in Old Poway Park in Poway, California (San Diego County). So, photographing her all in one piece is problematic because fences and bars are in the way and flowering plants grow all around her. So, my photo collages are an attempt to capture the beauty of this wonderful sculpture.
Seek her out the next time you visit San Diego County. Old Poway Park is a beautiful, charming, quiet park with lots of parking and much to see. Stay tuned for a future post about this great place to visit and picnic!
And, I love this quote. What better way to count your blessings during the holiday season (or any season), than to lend a hand?
