Sweetheart Brownie Bites are easy to make using a packaged brownie mix. You do, however, have to use a specialty pan. This one to be exact:
It’s a 12-piece Petite Non-stick Heart Muffin Pan available on Amazon. Here’s a link: 12-piece Petite Non-stick Heart Muffin Pan. It makes perfect Sweetheart Brownie Bites with just a little bit of preparation.

I also used these specific sprinkles made by Wilton:
Here’s a link to these sprinkles on Amazon: Wilton Jumbo Hearts Sprinkles. With these two key components, plus a packaged brownie mix and pre-made chocolate frosting, you too can have Sweetheart Brownie Bites ready for Valentine’s Day.
To be honest with you, I was quite intimidated in making Sweetheart Brownie Bites in this petite heart-shaped pan. Visions of globs of brownie stuck in the bottom of each cavity invaded my kitchen nightmares. Since I was only making 12 (because I only have one of these pans and didn’t want to spend the week in my kitchen cranking out brownie after brownie), I wanted every brownie to be perfect and not wasted with remnants stuck in the pan.
That’s why I decided to use a pre-packaged brownie mix rather than a “scratch” brownie recipe. Tried-and-true mixes can (and do) save the day in many cases and after all, this blog has “Toot Sweet” in the name!
But, how to make these adorable Sweetheart Brownie Bites and not miss out on one single bite (actually, two bites) of chocolaty goodness? The secret: preparing the non-stick pan. Yes, you would think that a non-stick pan would be non-stick. But, that’s not always, exactly true. Non-stick can actually mean “less-stick,” still leaving residue in those pristine surfaces. So, what preparation trick did right by me? Using non-stick cooking spray and then coating each heart-shaped cavity with unsweetened cocoa powder.
But, even this extra bit of preparation will NOT make these Sweetheart Brownie Bites magically pop out of the pan when you invert it. No-sirree-Bob! You will still need to use a regular dinner knife (not a sharp, pointy knife) to slide around the inside of each heart-shaped cavity AND THEN you will still need to use that knife to gently nudge them out of the pan, one-by-one. A bit tedious, but you will end up with 12 perfect Sweetheart Brownie Bites!
I then covered each with a wee bit of canned dark chocolate frosting (leftover from another project) and then topped each with a red jumbo heart sprinkle. Simple and sweet! The hardest part was waiting more than an hour for the brownies to cool before taking them out of the pan! Here’s a collage to pin to your Pinterest board…thanks for sharing!

Sweetheart Brownie Bites are easy to make using a packaged brownie mix. You do, however, have to use a specialty pan!
- Prep Time: 1 hour 30 mins
- Cook Time: 25 mins
- Total Time: 1 hour 55 mins
- Yield: 12 1x
- Category: Dessert
- Method: Baked
- Cuisine: American
Ingredients
- Non-stick cooking spray
- 1 tablespoon (or more) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 – 10.25 package Fudge Brownie Mix (a mix that makes an 8″ x 8″ pan of brownies; I used Betty Crocker), plus ingredients to make brownies (1/3 cup vegetable oil, 2 tablespoons water, 1 egg)
- 1/2 cup prepared dark chocolate fudge frosting (from a can; I used Duncan Hines)
- 12 red jumbo heart sprinkles (I used Wilton’s from a 3.25 oz container)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
- Spray each cavity of a 12-cup heart-shaped petite muffin pan with non-stick cooking spray.
- Sprinkle pan’s cavity bottoms with cocoa powder and tap pan to cover cocoa all over inside of each cavity.
- Turn pan upside down over your kitchen sink and tap pan, again, to remove excess cocoa powder; set pan aside.
- Mix brownies with ingredients per package instructions.
- Divide batter evenly among heart-shaped cavities (I used a 1 tablespoon, 1″ cookie scoop).
- Place pan in preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove pan from oven and transfer to cooling rack; cool completely (about one hour).
- Using a regular dinner knife (not a sharp, pointy knife), loosen sides of each cooled brownie, then, still using knife, gently leverage the knife into the edge of the brownie to remove from the pan.
- Place on serving platter and frost top of each with a thin layer of dark chocolate frosting.
- Top each with a red jumbo heart sprinkle.
Notes
Prep time contemplates cooling time.

I used the middle-sized ice cream scoop from this set to measure the brownie mix in each cavity:
