You know that saying from the movie Office Space, “Uh-oh. Sounds like somebody’s got a case of the Mondays.”? After nearly six years of this motherhood gig I can say from experience that having a “case of the Mondays” takes on a whole new meaning with kids, especially on Mondays; especially a Monday like today.
Let’s just call it “Mommy Mondays” to go along with my “Mommy Diary Monday”.
Here’s a little glimpse into my Monday so far (it’s 3:30 p.m. as I write this)…
2:15 a.m. Princess P crying in pain, leg pain (she gets growing pains in her legs and it’s very sad). It’s a bad episode. Tylenol is given and 15 or so minutes of massaging her legs and it’s no better. This is a job only Daddy can take care of…he has the magic with this leg massage down.
2:49 a.m. Princess P crawls into bed next to me. I make the poor judgment of letting her stay and decide to embrace the cuddle.
4:30 a.m. “Moooommmmyyyy….mooommmmyyyy????!!!” coming from the other room. Yes this is my Princess Sweetie Pie…she’s crying, she’s tired and she wants milk and to watch Bo On the Go (a very cute cartoon, but not at 4 in the morning). Seriously.
4:40 a.m. Half asleep in the kitchen, warming up milk in a sippy cup and trying to stay sleepy, I’ve decided that the score is already Monday-3 Mommy-o
4:45 a.m Walk back into my room to find a very comfortable, very asleep and very LONG (growing pain induced) Princess P spread out across what was once my side of the bed.
8:30 a.m. Wake up on the couch (1 POINT FOR MOMMY…and the crowd goes wild!) to the sound of coffee brewing. Ahhhhh, if the events from 2-5 a.m. didn’t happen this could be counted as a super-duper start to a Monday morning.
8:40 a.m. I bounce back to my usual Monday morning panicked and rushed state: “Girls, hurry up, get ready, we have to get Princess Sweetie Pie to school so she doesn’t miss out on her first day of her trip around the world!!”
9:05 a.m. “Hurry up girls, are you ready? Have your brushed teeth? Hair? Shoes on? Let’s go!”
At Princess Sweetie Pie’s school they are starting a very cute summer project of learning about travel around the world. They have made their own suit cases out of shoe boxes, passports, etc… Today was not a day to be leisurely late and miss her chance at the first stamp in the passport, you know, the important things.
9:10 a.m. In the car. Buckled up. One glance at the phone. Shoot, missed call from Grammie Jo. Hope everything is okay. I call her back quickly. She wants me to come for a visit today. Okay, no problem (except for the other millions of things I need to get done), she is a big priority, so of course Princess P and I will visit.
9:20 a.m. Arrive at preschool. A wave of relief sets in, THANK GOODNESS we didn’t miss it, Princess Sweetie Pie would be devastated.
9:35 a.m. Headed for the 9:50 a.m Dailey Method class. I haven’t been in way too long from being sick, I was NOT missing my class today!
I didn’t miss my class. I totally enjoyed every second of my ONE hour that is all mine!
So here I am, it’s late afternoon and I’m just now getting around to my Mommy Diary Monday post. I am trying to hide out in my bedroom only to be interrupted multiple times by kids, texts, pugs wanting to get up on the bed, husband, etc….. and now I am late to go pick up Princess Sweetie Pie from her trip around the world.
Current Monday Score: MONDAY-6 MOMMY-1
A case of the Mondays? A case of the Mommy Mondays? Maybe just another day in the life. It is a good life though. I wouldn’t have it any other way, although I hope I wake up in my bed tomorrow and not on the couch!
Do you ever have these days? I would love to hear that this isn’t just me, for some reason it makes me feel “normal”, whatever that is!
