I can’t believe it is already the 12th of October! Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner and then – 2014! Wow, this year has flown by. The picture above of Princess Sweetie Pie putting her hands in a fountain was taken August. I intended to do a post about that special day in August, but then, all of a sudden, August is over! But, stay tuned because I do intend to post that story in the future.
Anyway, I thought this picture was appropriate to use for the cover shot of Saving Mr. Lincoln – October 2013 Update because we like to throw pennies in fountains and make wishes and that’s what we were doing that day. Throwing pennies in fountains is kind of a savings plan – it’s saving good karma. Don’t you think? I think so; when you make a wish in a fountain, you are sending good, positive energy out into the universe. Besides that, pennies have Mr. Lincoln on them as do $5 bills.
If this is your first visit to our blog, my monthly Saving Mr. Lincoln posts launched on February 12th of this year, Abraham Lincoln’s birthday. On that day, I challenged myself (and readers, if they want to participate) to save all the $5 bills (Mr. Lincoln’s) that you receive as change from a purchase or as a gift. You can catch up on past posts with any of the links at the bottom of this post.
Each post talks about something different, so you might want to take a peek {grin}!
I’m thrilled to report that we saved $75 in $5 bills this month!
So why the Super Shock photo of the railroad car above (taken on the same day as the picture of Princess Sweetie Pie)? Because saving $75 is $50 less than we saved last month! Last month we saved $125 and the month before $130 and the month before $100 and the month before $145! So, a $75 savings, while still savings, represents a bit of a downturn!
But, in analyzing this change in events, I’ve concluded the following:
WE HAVE SPENT LESS MONEY THIS MONTH!
While we have continued to have fun on our weekends and are going out-and-about, we’ve been taking picnic lunches and bottled water, so we haven’t spent any money on food during those outings! AND, because we’ve spent less, we’ve received fewer $5 bills as change from purchases! A win-win! Our grand total since starting our savings plan in February is now $875! I’m doing a happy dance!
I’m continuing to work on the challenges I’ve set for myself (see past posts for those challenges) and while I’ve failed miserably at several of them, they are always in the back of my mind and I strive toward improvement {grin}.
How’s Saving Mr. Lincoln going for you? I’d love to hear from you, so leave a comment!
