“Really? Seriously? Are you frickin’ kidding me?” I whined as my husband announced I had a flat tire! Just hours away from picking up Tiffany to drive to Laguna Niguel for the Mom 2.0 Summit, I didn’t need this extra headache!
Charlie called AAA, who arrived in less than 30 minutes, checked the tire and inflated it so that I could drive. But, the AAA guy couldn’t find anything visibly wrong with it and since we were heading out-of-town for a long weekend, suggested that I take it to a tire store and have it checked further.
So, after deciding to listen to both the AAA guy and my husband (what? I listened to my husband?), I called Tiffany in exasperation and told her I was running late and we would have to make a stop at the tire place before hitting the road. Doesn’t bad luck come in threes?
(oh – here are the other two: I blew past Tiffany’s exit on the freeway in my pre-conference preoccupation haze and I couldn’t find my underwear when I was packing the night before – I’ll let your imagination run wild with that one!)
I arrived at Tiffany’s house a half hour late and parked on the street. I learned my lesson from last year, which started out with a pretty hard whack on my head from the trunk of the car. In October 2012, Tiffany and I attended our first blogging conference in Las Vegas and silly me, I parked the car in her driveway, which is not by any stretch of the imagine flat! Her driveway is angled uphill and like the silly goose that I am, I opened the trunk to add her luggage and whack! It fell down hard on my head to the point I was seeing stars! What, there’s this thing called gravity?
You can read that story here – Bloggy Boot Camp Revealed plus Tiffany’s wrap-up with another video here – Top 10 Reasons Why I Love Bloggy Boot Camp.
So, first stop – the tire store. An hour later, we had a clean bill of health from the tire technician (the plug inside the tire had corroded causing air to leak slowly over time) and no charge for the service, we were on our way!
Over the next several months, I’ll share specific experiences with Toot Sweet 4 Two readers about Mom 2.0 Summit. Billed as “an open conversation between moms + marketers + media”, to say it was fabulous is an understatement. What we did, learned and took-away from this conference was so much more than that and it deserves more than one “wrap up” post with bullet highlights. So, stayed tuned for each installment!
This beautiful display is Starbucks at Mom 2.0 Summit. Back to the story…
Committing to attend this conference was a stretch for the 2 of us on several fronts:
- This is the first time that Tiffany has left the Princesses P for that length of time, so an overnight stay with Poppa and Grams was arranged to relieve hubby from 3 solid days of non-stop indoctrination into “mommyhood”.
- Because it was a 2 1/2 day conference, the tickets were expensive.
- It was held at a 5-star luxury resort (The Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel) and the cost for 3 nights is budget-busting, even at the “conference room rate” that was significantly reduced for the attendees. Of course, Tiffany and I shared a room, so that cut our room expense in half.
Oh, did I mention that this blog, our blog, Toot Sweet 4 Two, isn’t yet breaking even financially? Did you even know that our goal is to at least break even on this blog? Yes, there are expenses to running and operating a blog and at some future point, I’ll share those gruesome details. But, in the meantime, if you’ve read any of my earlier posts (see below), you’d know that we have made less than $120.00 since launching on July 28, 2012. So, we thought long and hard before committing to this budget-busting experience. Here are our income reports thus far:
- Monthly Income Report – February 2013
- Monthly Income Report – March 2013
- Monthly Income Report – April 2013
Was it worth it? Absolutely. Would we do it again? You bet. Do we recommend this conference to other bloggers? Without hesitation.
So even though this story started with a flat tire, the Universe aligned and we’ve returned to the real world with a wealth of inspiration, a overflowing bucket full of information and endless opportunities!
Here we are hamming it up at The Bosco booth in the Raising America suite at Mom 2.0 Summit.
How was your weekend?
