Aren’t these cute? I got them at Target. They are actually called Candy Cane Peeps Dipped in Chocolate, but I prefer Peppermint Peeps! It has a nice alliteration to it, don’t you think? Peppermint Peeps piled on a platter to be pillaged by piggy Princesses P!
I’m not really off base with my alliterative sentence – the Princesses P came for a visit the other day and we ate Peppermint Peeps, mini-pancakes, crispy chicken, corndogs and mozzarella cheese sticks! We were piggies! In fact, we named Charlie the Pancake Piggy because he didn’t want to share his mini silver dollar pancakes with the Princesses! In fact, Princess Sweetie Pie announced that Charlie was the Pancake Grinch!
We all burst out laughing when she pronounced Charlie the Pancake Grinch. Picture this: she was on a step-stool at the kitchen counter helping me put all this delicious junk food on a baking tray to pop in the oven. She’s not quite 4 (next month is her birthday) and when Charlie started his tirade about not sharing his food with the Princesses P, she leaned forward, waved her arm majestically and pronounced Charlie the Pancake Grinch with an adorable impish grin and a twinkle in her eye! So cute!
Obviously, she was quite influenced by our recent outing to see Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas at the Old Globe Theater in Balboa Park. A wonderful production, a wonderful day (in spite of the rain), a wonderful memory! Our adventure to see The Grinch coincided with the opening of December Nights at Balboa Park and parking was a problem. Because we have handicap stickers, we were allowed to park in the handicap lot, but it’s down a hill from the Old Globe Theater.
We were quite a sight: 2 cars carrying 8 people (me, Charlie, my elderly mom, Tiffany, Princess P, Princess Sweetie Pie, Gail {my sister, Tiffany’s mother, the Princesses P’s grandmother} and Samantha {my niece, Tiffany’s sister, Gail’s other daughter}). One car with a handicap scooter on the back (for Charlie) and a wheelchair for my mother. All of us standing in the wind and rain with 4 umbrellas flapping around (San Diegans are never prepared for inclement weather!), trying to wrestled the scooter off the back of the car, get the wheelchair from inside the car, get Charlie and Mom settled while trying to keep them dry via umbrellas, then hoofing it to the Old Globe.
Bless Samantha’s heart, who pushed her grandmother up hill in Balboa Park all the way to the Old Globe and back!
I digress…
Back to the Peppermint Peeps. I decided to buy several packages so that we could make Hot Chocolate with Peppermint Peeps for Christmas. These photos are from our trial run. The Princesses P aren’t in the photo because they arrived too late for the photo shoot opportunity. It gets dark right at 5:00 p.m. now and the window of opportunity for food photography fades fast after 3:00 p.m.
Here’s what I plan to do for our Christmas celebration:
I’m going to set up this large silver platter at the end of our counter and put out Hot Chocolate mix and White Hot Chocolate mix along with my Oster Electric Tea Kettle and mugs. I’ll include spoons and Peppermint Peeps, some chocolate Santas, chocolate rings with sprinkles (Schokoladenkranze), candy canes and chocolate dipped pretzel rods. And, of course, mugs!
You can use a candy cane as a stir stick!
Peep melted…party’s over!
Tootles,
