Easter Egg Hunt at Home
We all know the saying, “April showers bring May flowers.” In some places, the classic Easter egg hunt is done outside with plastic eggs and can be questionable due to the weather. Sometimes it’s still snowing, raining, or just too cold. Since you’re at home anyway, an Easter egg hunt inside can still be exciting for the kids. Early in the morning, hide Easter eggs all around the house for them to have an entertaining game to play when they wake up or something to look forward to after they complete their school work. Either way, it’s an excellent way for them to use their energy.
A fun twist that can be made to this tradition is using glow in the dark Easter eggs. Just another way to interest them! These fun eggs can be used for school lessons, too. For example, hide them away in a designated area, like a basement, and turn off the lights. Have your child pick a math equation, such as “2 + 3.” Their task is to find the number of eggs that the problem equals. A joyful yet educational twist on a well-known endeavor. Or, use glow in the dark paint and add numbers to plastic Easter eggs with answers to the equations you give them! The eggs with the correct answers have the best prizes.
Table Decor
For some, going to a relative’s home might be the norm for Easter dinner. However, this year many of us will spend this time at home. Take advantage of this at-home time and decorate and celebrate Easter anyway! Adorn the table with a colorful centerpiece and other decorations. It’s a perfect way to incorporate a fresh and cheery atmosphere into your home. Tablescape decorations are the ideal way to be creative and celebrate such a memorable holiday! To help with your table’s design, we were able to grab a quick decorating tip from an avid crafter and DIYer, Rebecca Chandler.
“Painting mason jars for a bouquet of fresh flowers will make any Easter dinner centerpiece look great! You can even place goodie-filled Easter eggs around it for all of your peeps to enjoy!”
– Rebecca Chandler, eCommerce Merchandising at Michaels
Mason jars are so versatile, making them suitable for an Easter or spring-themed centerpiece. There can be one mason jar on the table or an arrangement of big and small jars! Make them your unique by painting them with solid spring colors like white and pastels. After they dry, try drawing bunnies on them or even spelling out “Happy Easter.” Once the jars are decorated, they can be filled with flowers and placed on the table. For another decorative element, use grass basket filler (recycled if you can) around or under the vases to add some depth to the table. Then, strategically place Easter eggs across the table.

Making a centerpiece is one of the simplest ways to tap into one’s creative side. With the extra time on our hands, there are several more Easter or spring elements to incorporate into different areas of the home, one being entryways. Having a wreath and other forms of decor on a front porch or side door will show feelings of happiness and comfort from the outside. When it comes to making a wreath, try to think outside the box. Don’t go for a typical circle-shaped wreath. Instead, mimic a carrot, a cross, or even a rabbit’s silhouette!
You can also utilize items you already have in your home to help save time and money. For example, using the outside structure of picture frames is perfect for creating a unique wreath. Frames don’t only have to hold photos. They can be used for craft projects like this one, too! Start by finding large picture frames to make a statement to neighbors. Then, paint them, glue on faux or dried flowers or plastic eggs, and even use wooden letters to say something, such as “welcome spring.” Whatever creative route you take, there will be a fun and bright wreath to admire in the end!
Decorate Easter Eggs
Along with the tradition of the Easter egg hunt, we can’t forget about decorating eggs either! The act of dying hard-boiled eggs dates back hundreds and hundreds of years ago. Whether your family practices a particular religion or not, the egg symbolizes new life or rebirth. Decorating eggs emphasizes that! During what I like to call our “new normal,” this might be the element needed to reflect and appreciate the adjustments to our day-to-day routines.
Each year, children look forward to transforming the blank canvas of an egg with vibrant colors, stickers, glitter, and paint. However, how can we spice things up this year? There are many ways to spice it up! Try using shaving creaming and rice! Start by filling a sheet pan with shaving cream. Then, take food coloring and drop different colors randomly or strategically. Use a kitchen utensil to make a marble effect in the shaving cream, and gingerly roll the egg in it. Set aside for about an hour, then wipe away the cream with a towel to reveal a marble or watercolor effect. The next idea is filling sandwich bags with rice and adding food coloring into each. Carefully drop an egg in each bag, seal it, and then move it around from the outside. When taken out, the egg will show a textured look that wouldn’t be achievable in the ordinary water, vinegar, and dye mixture.
Spring Arts and Crafts
It’s essential to keep children busy during this time. Leverage this time that you wouldn’t usually have with your kids for arts and crafts. In order to blend in fun activities, designate time to doing something creative each day. There are so many Easter craft ideas to choose from! Start by gathering your supplies, or if you’re missing an item or four, order the art supplies as needed. Arts are a way for children to express themselves, and help with developing their fine motor skills.
With the abundance of designs, there are some crafts that are good for one age group, whereas, this craft is great for many. It can even be done as a family! You’ll need a piece of poster foam board, cardboard, paint, and letter stencils. First, cut the poster board down to a size that would fit nicely on the wall. On the cardboard, cut out the shape of a bunny head and ears. Then, lightly tape it to the center of the board. Using pastel colors, have the whole family imprint their handprint on the poster until minimal white is showing. Once dried, remove the bunny-head cardboard. From there, stencil in the family name or “Happy Easter!” For a finished look, cut out black card stock for a border.
Wishing You a Happy Easter at Home!
Breakthrough the gloomy thoughts or feelings you may have about being stuck in the house. Instead, look at the bright side and take advantage of what you can do while at home. For some, having time to do crafts with their kids is rare but now, you can! Use time wisely and make it fun for the whole family. This will pass and we may as well have fun doing it!
