The above photograph is of a teeny, tiny island in the middle of one of the lakes in Killarney National Park, Ireland. Our guide told us the locals call it “Mouse Island.” Toot Sweet 4 Two is one of the “Mouse Islands” on the World Wide Web and we remind constantly ourselves – nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Our blog launched on July 28th with A Boy Named Coco as the very first post. Tiffany and I worked on this blog for many, many months before launching it, trying to figure out the nuances of tags, categories, menus and widgets, so that on the day that we hit the “Publish” button for the first time, we would have a good, quality product that we both are proud of and willing to share.
But, it was taking us longer and longer to create our blog and launch it because our learning curve is steep. Rather than waiting until it was “perfect”, we decided we needed to take the leap and just do it – nothing ventured, nothing gained – and finish learning how to create and manage a blog as we go.
So, while we spent months and months planning, organizing, designing and creating, we’ve literally launched this blog with a “seat of your pants” kind of approach! As the saying goes, “nothing ventured, nothing gained”. We will share the experience of creating this blog with all of you in future posts, beginning next year.
We have no idea how many “views” of a blog are normal on any given day or for that matter, any month. An internet search was no help, as responses varied and of course, the longer your blog is in existence, the more potential visitors you stand to gain. So, we just decided to set a personal goal of 1,000 views for our first month of blogging.
On August 27th, we sent out a “call to arms” through Facebook to view and “Like” our blog and we were NOT disappointed. Our readership rallied forth and shot us past our personal goal with 1,013 views for the first month! And, we have 50 “Likes” and we have 10 subscribers/followers!
Thanks to all of you who helped us realize this, our first goal! We are so grateful and hope that you will stay with us over the next months and years as this blog matures, changes and becomes even better. As I said in my post, Under Construction, Tiffany and I are committed to this journey and while we are like “Mouse Island” (above) in the middle of a giant lake (the World Wide Web), we are in it for the long haul – nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Again, thank you all for helping to make our dreams come true!
Tootles,
