Welcome to our Monthly Income Report – February 2013! If you are a regular reader of our blog, you know that Tiffany and I haven’t had a revenue stream to finance this blog – until now! February 28, 2013 was our 7 month anniversary since launching Toot Sweet 4 Two on July 28, 2012 and we are excited to share with you the ways that blogs earn revenue.
Start-up costs for a blog can be costly, especially if you decide to go the “self-hosted” route. I’ll tell you more about start-up costs and self-hosting in future posts, but for now, this post is all about income!
We are asked quite frequently, especially by family and friends since blogging takes much time and effort, if we make money from blogging. Up until now, the answer has been “no”. There are multiple ways to make income from blogging, but each way requires its own list of tasks to implement and a steep learning curve for novices like us!
Recently, we applied to Amazon to become affiliates and we were accepted. So, Tiffany has spent countless hours learning how to add an Amazon shop to our site! You can read her story about Shop Toot Sweet by clicking of this link.
Disclaimer: If you decide to make a purchase through our link, Amazon will pay us a commission for it. This does not cost you anything more. These commissions help to keep the rest of our content free, so we thank you very much!
As we learn new ways to create income on our blog, we will share those with you in our Monthly Income Reports, which will post approximately the 5th day of the following month. For example, this report for the month of February posted today, March 5th.
As you already know, from the picture above, we made $7.91 in the month of February as an Amazon affiliate. But, in a gesture of good faith and in the spirit of full disclosure, while this income did come directly from visitors to our blog, specifically it was one faithful reader and visitor, my sister, Dawn. One of our most loyal followers and frequent commenter, Dawn was the first person to purchase items from our Amazon shop.
So, there you have it! The income was derived from my sister! And, my sister bought items that are in our Shop Toot Sweet site.
How did that work?
Well, she picked something from our site, put it in her shopping cart, clicked the “check out” button, which took her to Amazon’s site to sign-in under her personal account. She confirmed what she wanted to buy and then, completed her transaction and checked out.
BTW – the Amazon reports we receive do not show who purchased from us; just that someone did. So, I only know what my sister purchased because, in her excitement about having this new shopping site available to her, she called me and told me!
Hopefully, by the end of March, we’ll have another source of revenue to track and report. In the meantime, if you shop Amazon, Shop Toot Sweet! And, we thank you!
Tootles,
Dawn says
I like the “tootles” at the end and your picture. It’s a cute addition, you might think of adding it more often.
