There is a Girl Scout song, “Make New Friends”, a song that comes to mind often when I think of the new friends I’ve made simply by Princess P starting kindergarten.
Most of my life I’ve been truly blessed with great friends. So many different personalities and histories, but all very special. I didn’t expect that in my “adult” years that I would meet some of the most wonderful people and bond so quickly with them.
When I became a “First Time Kinder Mommy” this past fall I had no idea how life changing this time would be for me!
This five-day a week thing is no joke; it is rough getting a five-year old to school by 7:40 a.m.! Add an eager Princess Sweetie Pie in the mix and, wow…I think I finally know the meaning of total exhaustion!
The perks highly outweigh the struggles though. My favorite perk is that I get to make new friends and I have found some amazing new friends.
I have a bad habit of overextending myself. I want to do it ALL! In this Toot Sweet life I end up with way too much on my plate and sometimes fall short in some areas (example: I’m usually always a few minutes late). Not knowing any better as a first time Kindergarten mommy, I signed up for LOTS of things! I’m part of the “Room Mom” team, a parent helper in class once a week, a Co-Leader for a Girl Scout Daisy troop and a few other things too!
So far it has been an amazing and fun journey, even if it is a bit overwhelming.
Thankfully one of my “New Friends” is a veteran at all this and she is showing me the way. She is AMAZING! I can only hope that by the time Princess P is in third grade and Princess Sweetie Pie is starting her journey I will be as AMAZING as her! Of course, there are other amazing friends who are not veterans either; we are learning together with each others support!
So I dedicate this song to all my New friends and, of course, the old friends too! Thank you, thank you, thank you…without all of you I wouldn’t be able to even attempt to “do it ALL”!
Make new friends,
But keep the old.
One is silver,
The other is gold.
