California Towhee in one of my trees…
These birds in all these barren trees made me think of this quote – birds make trees beautiful, especially barren ones, don’t you think?
All these photos are trees (and birds) in my yard. I’m very lucky to have many, many trees especially since most of our trees burned in the 2007 wildfires.
Most of our trees are new – at least new to us. When possible and when we could afford it, we bought mature trees in 25-gallon or larger containers and had them planted around our property. Each so large, they had to be delivered on flatbed trucks! And, my mother and a friend gifted us two, mature Crape Myrtle trees. In the past 5 years, many have grown so much you’d think they’d been a part of our property for 10+ years!
Because we have so many trees scattered about, many, many birds visit us. A blessing indeed!
Another bird in yet another tree…
A House Finch in yet another tree…
“Some people look for a beautiful place. Others make a place beautiful.” – Author Unknown
I like to think that we’ve taken our barren plot of land and made it beautiful, too. Even the parts left barren are beautiful in their own way – wildflowers in the Spring that turn to tumbleweeds in the Summer. Barren mountains that turn lush and green with the slightest rain…nature’s way of making a place beautiful. Even the burned out, Tim Burton skeleton-trees left behind in the wildfire’s devastation – those are beautiful, too. A constant reminder of the fickle nature of extreme weather.
