May your day be filled with blessings
Like the sun that lights the sky,
And may you always have the courage
To spread your wings and fly.
Yesterday, as I walked around our property, I saw this hawk sitting in a fire-blackened “Tim Burton skeleton tree” that has never recovered from the 2007 California wildfire. Magnificent in the distance, I wanted to get closer. Although I have a new fancy, dancy camera that I got as a Christmas gift from my husband, Charlie, that came equipped with two really good lenses, I don’t yet have a telephoto lens that can capture birds in the distance.
So, thinking I wouldn’t call the hawk’s attention to me and scare him away by approaching him head-on, I walked towards him at an angle that implied I was heading away from him. Well, that didn’t fool him one bit and he alighted from his perch and soured into the sky directly over me, circling and circling me. He was majestic and enthralling and, of course, I was totally not prepared.
My new camera has a “sports” setting as well as a “child” setting and if I’d been prepared and had my camera set to either of these two settings, I might have been able to capture better photos. In the meantime, the one above will suffice for today’s motivational quote, yet another Irish blessing.
Below are a couple more photos of this hawk, although not as wonderful as the one above.
I know this isn’t the usual “green” way of wishing you a
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
No shamrocks, leprechauns, rainbows and a pot of gold – but, the blessing above says it all! So, whatever you do in life (and even just for today), “spread your wings and fly.”
