Did you see a cow today? There’s a theory that every day you see a cow. Did you know that? Did you see your cow today?
I live in the country – it’s a no brainer that I could, would, should see a cow every day. But, we don’t have cows and unless I drive down the road a fair piece, I won’t see my cow, because my rural neighbors to the north don’t have cows and my rural neighbors to the east don’t have cows plus our south and west property lines are bordered by a dry river bottom and protected habitat.
But, the theory also includes watching television, reading magazines, or packaging on food products, etc. So, if you add all of those things together, then, yes, you have probably seen a cow today. And, every day.
I used to commute to work every day. For well more than 20 years, I would drive 35 miles one-way into downtown San Diego from my home. Every day I would pass cows – herd after herd after herd of cows. We have several dairy farms in our valley and it was inevitable. To get anywhere, to any town from my home, I have to pass fields of cows.
Then, I transferred to one of our closer offices, about 15 miles one-way. Still, I would pass herds of cows.
Then, about a year and a half ago, I got the opportunity to work from home. So, now I have to actually go out of my way to see a real live cow every day.
But, I keep these in my pantry just so I can see a cow every day and not have to get in my car and drive {giggle}. No, really, I keep these in my pantry for the “littles” that come to visit on occasion. Besides the 2 Princesses P, I have other great-nieces and great-nephews that visit every now and then.
“Opie, you haven’t finished your milk. We can’t put it back in the cow, you know!” – Andy Griffith as Sheriff Andy Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show
Actually, I saw lots of cows the other day, driving around our back country roads. And, I stopped and took these pictures. It’s Spring and baby calves are everywhere and they are so cute, don’t you think?
Sorry for the barb-wire in some of the photos. As long as I stayed in our truck, the cows came right up to the fence. Once I got out of the trunk, off they went.
“Cows are amongst the gentlest of breathing creatures; none show more passionate tenderness to their young when deprived of them, and, in short, I am not ashamed to profess a deep love of these quiet creatures.” – Thomas de Quincey
I got my cow “fix” for awhile. Don’t you think? And now so have you!

I had forgotten the cow story. I’ll have to watch for them again now.

Last night, I saw my cow on a TV commercial. Today, I saw my cow on a package of string cheese! They’re everywhere! We love our cows!
