“Baloney is flattery laid on with a trowel. Blarney is flattery laid on with lips; that is why you have to kiss a stone to get it.” – Monsignor Fulton Sheen
In August and September of 2007, I had the good fortune of touring parts of Ireland with my friend, Christin. One of our stops was Blarney Castle in County Cork. A huge tourist attraction, the line was long to kiss the Blarney Stone. After debating whether or not we wanted to wait in line, lay down on our backs on cold stone, twist our head backward holding onto railings in order to kiss the Blarney Stone where thousands before us had laid their lips, we decided not too!
I guess that means that neither of us has been bestowed the gift of Blarney! Here are more pictures of Blarney Castle taken with a simple point-and-shoot camera back in 2007:
This is the same photo as the one with the quote, except not cropped to be “Pinteresting”. Those metal railings have been installed all around the top of the battlement for safety.
Walking up to Blarney Castle from the beautiful grounds and gardens that surround it.
As you get closer to the entrance, the immense fortress intimidates.
The view from the top of Blarney Castle – gorgeous rolling green hills as far as the eye can see!
