Attack of the Amazon Elves – has that ever happened to you? Well, it’s happened to me – but it was entirely my fault! To read the “back story”, click on this post: Rainbows, Charlie and the Amazon Elves.
I’ve been an Amazon customer for more than 20 years. But, I just ordered books from them; nothing else. I was aware, in the back of my mind, that they sold various other goods, but I just didn’t take the time to check it out.
In the last couple of years, I’ve taken on various additional responsibilities as my loved ones have aged. You can read about my eldercare journey under our category, “Sweet Home – The Eldercare Diaries” or by clicking on these links:

You can see that I’ve had much to say on the subject! And, I’ve had much to do…
I’ve had much to do including taking on various shopping tasks for my elderly loved ones. Since there were 3 of them (my parents and my aunt), sometimes just this additional added task to my already “toot sweet” life can seem overwhelming. Plus, I hate to shop!
I know! What woman hates to shop? {giggle}. I’m an anomaly – created by massive shopping expeditions! You can read about those massive shopping expeditions by clicking on these links:

All of the above posts are part of a 20-part series about the loss of our home in the 2007 San Diego County Witch Fire, and the series starts with this post: Any Way the Wind Blows. Anyway, if you read this story or the various posts above, you’ll discover WHY I no longer like to shop.
So, when I mentioned this anomaly (the fact that I don’t like to shop) to Tiffany, she said “have you tried Amazon?” That Tiffany – she ALWAYS has the BEST solutions for every day problems!
Then she went on to tell me about their “Amazon Prime” and “Subscribe and Save” programs. If you aren’t familiar with these two programs, click on these links for a run down of these programs: Amazon Prime and Subscribe and Save.
Back to the “Attack of the Amazon Elves” story:
I’ve been using the “Subscribe and Save” program for about a year now. And I love it! I even order Coco’s food and treats from Amazon. Coco is our beautiful Snowshoe Siamese cat and you can read stories about him and see pictures of him by clicking on the links below:

And, you can see a video of Coco helping me by clicking on this post: Emergency Planning Checklist.
Plus you can see more pictures of him and read his “fire story” in the links above about the 2007 San Diego County Witch Fire.
And, if you are a cat lover, Tiffany and her family have a wonderful cat, Fred, and you can read about him here: Fred the Purr-minator.
And, if you are a dog lover, Tiffany and her family have two adorable pugs and you can read about them here: Men in Black and Favorite Picture of the Week – October 11, 2012!
There – I covered all the pet stories! We love our pets {giggle}!
Oh, back to Attack of the Amazon Elves {I easily get distracted}!
So, remember I mentioned above that two of the items I order through the Amazon “Subscribe and Save” program are Coco’s cat food and treats? I have found that ordering his food this way is less expensive than any other shopping experience I have found, whether it’s a grocery store, a retail store, or a big box store. Coco is very particular about his food, particularly his treats (all because my friend, Mory, gifted him treats years ago and he’s been hooked ever since!). And he’s one spoiled cat, so we can’t NOT have his treats! That Coco has the most pitiful, powerful yowl you ever wanted to hear – caterwauling at its finest!
In addition, Amazon’s delivery system means I shop less, am less tempted to spend money on things I don’t need, burn less fuel traipsing from store to store when one store doesn’t carry what I need, etc. A win-win all the way around for me!
Anyway, the long and short of the story is that somehow I messed up the ordering on the “Subscribe and Save” program and here’s what happened: in a two day period I received boxes and boxes of cat food and treats! Needless to say, Coco is in “hog heaven” and we have enough food for him for at LEAST 6 months! (P.S. you can go in and modify the “Subscribe and Save” program at any time and tell the system to NOT ship or to ship on a certain date or to skip a shipment or cancel a shipment; it’s very flexible!).
See the photo above with the explosion of cat treats? You are probably asking why I just didn’t send it back to Amazon. By the way, they have a great return policy and an EXCELLENT customer service department! I’ve had nothing but great service from Amazon!
Here’s the thing about NOT returning the massive amounts of Coco’s treats: we keep them in a basket (now 3 baskets!) in our kitchen pantry. Coco LOVES squeezing through the slightly opened pantry door and sniffing his basket of treats, rubbing his body all over his basket of treats and sometimes, picking just the right treat packet from the basket, grabbing it with his teeth and dragging it from the pantry out into the kitchen and then meowing at us to feed him those treats! Too cute! I hope to capture Coco on video one of these days doing this behavior and when I do, of course I’ll share it on the blog!
P.S. Did you notice that we added a new category to our blog – Shop Toot Sweet? In this section, we provide links to products we love on Amazon. We hope you’ll take a moment and check out those products! We will be adding more over time, so check back often!
