“No gift to your mother can ever equal her gift to you – life.” – Author Unknown
I love this quote. When I came across it, using it for the start of Mother’s Day week was a given. After all, none of us would be here without a mother.
I also love the rose photo. This is a bush in my rose garden. I have no idea what the name of the rose is (it belonged to my aunt and she doesn’t remember), but I think it’s a type of grandiflora because it blooms in massive clusters, like a bouquet. So, you get new roses, old fading roses and in-between roses all on one stem. So lovely! Kinda like our Mother’s Day family gathering – the new roses are the young Princesses and their cousins, the in-betweens are their mother’s (the Millennials) and the old fading roses are me and my sisters {grin} plus our mother.
Did you know this was Mother’s Day week {grin}? I know Mother’s Day is not until Sunday, May 11th, but I thought I’d start a campaign to have a Mother’s Week instead of Mother’s Day. After all, it seems only fitting that we give our mothers a one week celebration out of the 52 we have in the year, don’t you think?
My mother, Jo, has celebrated Mother’s Day for an entire week all of her life. How in the heck did she manage that, you wonder? Well, she was born May 9th. Inevitably, her birthday falls near or on Mother’s Day every year. Rather than celebrate both together on the same day, we have separated them to celebrate each separately. After all, we want to recognize our mother along with other mothers on their special day, but birthdays shouldn’t be overlooked just because you are born on or near a holiday, right?
Like someone born on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. Two celebrations are in order.
Interestingly, I have 10 family members that were born either on or near a holiday. And, depending on when Easter falls every year, I have 3 more!
Anyway, back to Mother’s Day! Happy Mother’s Day week to mothers everywhere! I vote that we extend the celebration to honor all of you!
What do you think?
