Like a cat, I stretched my body from tip to toe, relishing the newly wakened feeling surging through my body. On a mini-vacation with girlfriends at a near-by bed-and-breakfast in the Temecula wine country, I climbed out of my luxurious bed, put on my slippers and headed to the window. Pushing open the curtains, I opened the sliding glass door that led out to our balcony.
Stepping onto the large balcony in the brisk, misty morning stillness, I inhaled deeply savoring the moment and working the cobwebs out of my foggy brain. My eyes traveled across the vast landscape of vineyards and rolling hills and stopped dead as they focused on 5 balloons in the distant! 5 hot air balloons ascending into the sky.
I ran back into the room, brain fog now vanished, to get my camera. As fast as I could muster, I changed lenses to my zoom lenses, wrapped the strap around my neck and headed out to the balcony. Not wanting to miss a moment of this awesome sight, I focused my lens. The balloons were too far away in the distant to get a meaningful shot of all six, so instead I got four.
Suddenly a sixth beautiful bright balloon, centered in yellow with red and blue strips, slowly rose from behind a hill.
Higher and higher it climbed, joining the others hovering in the faint breeze.
Wasn’t that a great way to start a morning? A shout-out to my dare-devil girlfriend, Ali, across the pond in England: hey, Ali, next time you come to the States, let’s go ballooning, k? I think I just added another thing to do on my bucket list!
Is ballooning on yours?
