The above picture is my actual spice drawer. I know it’s kinda messy (don’t bust my chops!) because I don’t have my spices in fancy dancy containers that all match! But, hey, it works for me and it’s so convenient right next to my stove! 42 Spices to Have on Hand is the 7th post in this ongoing series of household lists! Wow – hard to believe this is number 7 with no end in sight {grin}!
Why am I creating all these various household lists? Well, my house burned to the ground in the 2007 San Diego County Witch Fire and NOT having photos and/or a list of household goods taught me a very hard lesson. Can you imagine trying to recreate a household list for an insurance company if you’ve had a total loss? Well, I’ve done it – it took me 9 months of working nights and weekends.
So, I’ve decided to create household inventory lists to supplement my Emergency Planning Checklist. I created one of those last year, but even though I’ve been down this road before, I haven’t yet done everything that I can to feel like I’m even halfway prepared for another emergency. So, since I’m trying to move forward on this never-ending project, I thought I would share these lists on our blog in case readers want to try to tackle an emergency preparedness project.
Why 42 and not 25, 50 or 100? I like to “brand” some of our posts with 42 for the “4 Two” in our name!
In case you’ve missed the earlier posts in this series, here they are in order of posting:

Wow, how about that! I think all bar one of those are in my cupboard, and it would never have occurred to me that there were 42 things in there!!!

I know! Can’t believe I have at least 42! When you cook as much as we do, it’s easy to suddenly be “stocked up”! Thanks for joining the conversation and hope you are over your jetlag and settled back into a “normal” existence! Thanks, too, Vanessa for coming all the way from Australia to visit me and Tiffany and join us for our Blog-o-versary Party! You are so awesome and we love you!
I love my spices, I definitely have all of these on hand plus more! People look in my spice drawer and are in awe of it haha.
It’s amazing how quickly one acquires a stash! Thanks for your comment!
