42 Paper Supplies in Your Home Office is a continuation of my 42 Things in Your Home Office and Library post from a few weeks ago. Sitting in my home office, writing that post, it was clear to me that I had more than 42 things in my home office {grin}! After working on it awhile, I decided I needed to break it down into 4 posts and this is the 3rd post in the set. In case you missed the 2nd one, it was 42 Basic Office Supplies in Your Drawers and Cabinets.
Who knew one could have so much stuff just in a home office {grin}? Be sure to check out the FREE printable of this list at the end of the post.
I took a break for 2 weeks and posted 42 Easter Decorations for Your Home just before Easter and then 21 Awesome Things I’m Sweet On in April 2014. So, now we are back in the office!
If you are a new reader to my blog, you are probably wondering what all these lists of 42 are about. In 2007, we lost our home in the Southern California wildfire known as the Witch Fire. These links takes you to the 20-part series I wrote about the loss of our home, starting with the post Any Way the Wind Blows. As I’m writing this post, we are having perfect Santa Ana wind conditions, with the wind gusting between 45 to 80 miles per hour and 80+ degree weather. Perfect fire conditions, what our area of the country calls a “red flag warning” day.
During the claims process following the loss of our home in the wildfire, I had to make a complete household inventory, in minute detail down to the last toothpick, to submit to our insurance carrier. It took me nine months and was 165 excel pages long. These lists of 42 are my way of working on the inventory of our new house and I’m sharing them with readers, should readers want/need to do their own household inventory or know someone who has suffered a loss and could benefit from these lists.
Also as I write this post, friends in the South and Midwest are experiencing record tornadoes and unbelievable devastation. My heart goes out to each of them.
I grew up in Tennessee and Arkansas and I remember the tornado warnings – the sky separating in shades of gray and black; the ominous stillness falling over the land as birds and wildlife scrambled to safety. We lived in Little Rock for 6 years and one year a tornado came through and devastated our neighborhood. Skipping over houses and smashing others to smithereens.
I was married and living in another neighborhood, fraught with anxiety as news reports talked of the disaster. I still had a driver’s license with my family’s address on it, so I stopped at a store, bought some groceries, and went to the blockade, saying that my family was home (true) and I was bringing them groceries (true). While they looked at my license, they never asked me if I lived there. They allowed me through.
Our house was spared, but all around it lay massive destruction. My father and sister were home at the time and they both described the roar of the tornado like the sound of a freight train at their door. None of us will forget that day.
