Here are 42 Thoughtful Gift Ideas for Mother’s Day on Any Budget
1. Jewelry – an obvious choice. They have some really beautiful options in all sorts of price ranges. So, even if you don’t have much money to spend, finding her a special somethin’ somethin’ is super easy these days.
2. A beautiful jewelry box.
3. Not sure what to get her? Give her a gift certificate to a store, restaurant or just one that she can spend anywhere.
4. Does your mother like to read? Does she have a favorite author? Get her a book. If she already has all the books by her favorite author, check online for when the author’s next release is scheduled and pre-order the book and give her a card telling her the book will arrive once it’s published.
5. Is your mother a music lover? Get her a CD or a gift card to download whatever she wants.
6. Give her a gift certificate for a mani/pedi or a massage.
7. Or, give her a gift certificate for a day at a spa that includes all of these!
8. Does your mom have a hobby? Buy her classes for her hobby. For example, if she likes to cook, buy her a cooking class in your local area for something special – like making homemade pasta or decorating cakes.
9. If you have money to burn, hire a cleaning service and have her house given a thorough once-over. Most cleaning services do a very thorough job and they bring in a team.
10. Clothing is always a good gift. How about a new pair of slippers, a floppy hat, a beautiful scarf or shawl?
11. Don’t live in the same state? Buy her airline tickets to visit you and your family.
12. How about that special gadget that she wants, but has put off buying? Like a new camera, an iPad or even a front door camera?
13. A smartphone wallet or a wristlet.
14. A gift basket or tote filled with specialty items, like a “spa” basket, a “gardener’s basket”, a “wine lover’s basket.” There are so many great options out there!
15. A journal so she can write her own memories.
16. Does she collect something? Give her something to add to her collection.
17. A beautiful candle – one time, I received the most beautiful candle from a friend. It came from Red Envelope and was wrapped beautifully in their signature red box and white satin ribbon. Such a wonderful surprise! P.S. This is not a shameless plug for Red Envelope – I have no affiliation with them; just wanted to share my personal story {grin}!
18. Does your mom enjoy her yard or garden? Give her a birdhouse, birdbath or a piece of garden art.
Personalized and DIY Mother’s Day Gift Ideas
19. Write her a blog post. I’ve written 3 so far: A Mother’s Gift, Mom’s Old Fashioned Coffee Cake and Mom’s Old Fashioned Banana Nut Bread. And, I visited her today (it’s her birthday today) and read them all to her from my iPhone and showed her the pictures. She grinned from ear-to-ear and thanked me profusely, but I have a sneaky suspicion that she really couldn’t see the photos well. She’s 84 and has glaucoma and her eyesight is failing. But, I’m her daughter and anything her daughter does is just fine by her and she was thrilled! Oh, you aren’t a blogger? Write her a letter instead and share memories of special times with her in that letter. She will treasure that letter always.
20. Personalized jewelry – have a special necklace engraved.
21. Personalized wall art – there are several companies out there that add names and dates to canvases creating a one-of-a-kind treasure.
22. Make her a coupon booklet for different things you will do for her that she can redeem. PicMonkey has some great ideas for creating this special coupon book.
23. A framed photo of you and/or you and your family.
24. A personalized tote bag, purse or pocketbook.
25. Custom mug – have a special photo added to a mug. It will become her favorite drinking vessel.
26. Give her a day off. Give her a handwritten certificate saying that you will be “mom” for the day. On the designated day, go to her house and do everything for her that needs to be done: cooking, cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping. Put yourself in her shoes for the day.
27. Still live at home? Make her breakfast and serve it to her in bed.
28. A family tree – completed and framed.
29. A scrapbook of memories that you’ve made for her.
30. An heirloom recipe book – collected family recipes that you’ve put together through an online source.
31. A cookie basket or a basket of homemade cookies.
32. A homemade card – get creative; there are so many wonderful things available to create your own DIY card.
33. An adorable picnic basket filled with picnic food (or cats).
Take Her Somewhere Special for Mother’s Day
34. Take her to brunch, lunch or dinner or a picnic. Any of those options are sure to please her because after all, she’s spending time with you!
35. Take her to a special event. Do you have a special place in your community that puts on a special Mother’s Day event? Several years ago, a beautiful local farm in our county put on a Mother’s Day brunch. We took Mom there two years in a row. Sadly, they no longer do the event, but we have wonderful memories.
36. Take her to a movie. Just the two of you. And, buy her extra movie tickets for another day.
37. Buy her tickets to a play. Or better yet, take her to a play.
38. A weekend getaway to someplace special. A wine country excursion? A beachside community?
Ideas of What to Send Your Mom on Mother’s Day
39. Send her candy. Or chocolate-covered strawberries.
40. Send her flowers. Yes, it’s an obvious choice, but maybe you no longer live near your mother. The beautiful bouquets available through florists these days are amazing and what woman doesn’t like flowers?
41. Okay, so maybe you have that particular mom who doesn’t like flowers. Send her a plant. Bonsai, orchids, or even one she can plant in the yard to remember you by.
What is one of the best, most thoughtful gift ideas for Mother’s Day?
42. A phone call! Can’t be with Mom on Mother’s Day? Don’t forget to pick up the phone…
What am I giving my mom? Well, she lives in assisted living. Charlie and I and my sister, Gail, are having Mother’s Day brunch with her in the lovely dining room of her facility. Afterward, if she’s up for it, I’m taking her to the movies. She wants to see “Heaven is for Real.” Before her eyesight failed, she’d read the book. And, she believes in the story…plus, on the big screen, she should be able to really, truly enjoy it!
