So, how did this whole blogging thing come about? We’ve been asked that question many times. Well, the simple answer is: 2 Girls with an Idea! But, of course, as in life, there is always “more to the story” and in our blogging story, there is more!
Side note: the picture above, taken in 1985, is 4 generations of women, strong women, in our family. From bottom row, left to right: Gail (my sister and Tiffany’s mother), Dawn (my sister and Melissa’s mother), Tiffany (with my arm around her), Me holding Melissa (my niece, too, and Dawn’s daughter). Top row, left to right: our grandmother (and Tiffany’s and Melissa’s great-grandmother) Dorothy and our mother (and Tiffany’s and Melissa’s grandmother) Jo.
We never started out to be a blog. We wanted to start a company catering to the needs of the elder care community. We even came up with a great name – On Angels’ Wings – and Tiffany’s husband, Chris, built us a small website. The list of elder care needs is endless, but that’s not what this story is about. It’s about Tiffany and me launching this blog.
During our research phase of trying to figure out how we were going to launch an elder care services company, we kept stumbling upon blogs. Fascinating blogs, fun blogs, creative blogs, food blogs, heart-wrenching blogs, heart-lifting blogs – Mom blogs.
Tiffany had read blogs for awhile. But this was a whole new world for me. A fascinating world of sisterhood – supporting each other and slowly, dramatically shifting the world. And, I wanted to be a part and play a part in this dynamic ever-changing world, if for no other reason than I didn’t want to be left behind.
So, in the blink of an eye, our focus shifted. We wanted to create a place in the blogosphere to document our journey as women in this sisterhood called life. While we wanted our focus to be positive, we also wanted it to be real – a real reflection of us and our respective life paths from two different generational perspectives.
Tiffany’s a new wife and mother, just celebrating her 7th anniversary, knee-deep in raising the Princesses P and all that road implies. I’m her older (not always wiser) aunt with a muddled and messy past struggling to make sense of the turbulence thrown in my once peaceful existence – eldercare – and scared to death of my future because of what I have learned from my eldercare journey.
But, we didn’t want our posts to always be knee-deep in drama. We also wanted to share the fun in our lives, the love in our lives and recipes – love those food bloggers and their amazingly beautiful, mouth-watering food photos!
Anyway, as women, we want it all – all the joy we can muster even while wallowing in knee-deep drama.
So, after many, many brainstorming sessions, creating and abandoning several ideas and blog sites partially set-up, Toot Sweet 4 Two was born out of the ashes of 2 Girls with an Idea.
Because we are both incredibly busy women with extremely busy lives (like all women), most (at least 75%) of the blog was created by texting back and forth to each other. Endless texts, always starting with “I have an idea,” until both husbands would throw up their hands and shout, “enough already!”
But, “I have an idea” has now become our “catch phrase” and when one or the other uses it, the other smiles and responds, “of course you do.”
So, while we are Toot Sweet 4 Two, in our hearts and minds we will always be 2 Girls with an Idea…2 Girls with lots and lots and lots of ideas! So, stay tuned…
Tootles,
