Last month, I introduced a new monthly series about other bloggers and if you didn’t get a chance to check that post out, you can now {grin}: 21 Awesome Things I’m Sweet On in April 2014.
I’m always inspired by the incredible work of others and this month there are 18 Awesome Things I’m Sweet On in May 2014. I’ve divided them up into the 8 categories on Toot Sweet 4 Two to give them a bit of “organization”. Anyway, here are the 18 Awesome Things I’m Sweet On in May 2014:
Sweet Eats
Nikki at Chef in Training has a recipe for No Bake Cake Batter Truffles. I’ve made cake batter truffles 3 times over the last year and yet they still elude me. Each time, my recipe is not “blog-worthy”. I’ve posted photos of them and you can see my attempts, here, here and here, but I’ve never posted a recipe. I think Nikki’s recipe might be my next attempt!
I love caramel, cookies, bars and put them all together and you get Roxana’s Salted Caramel Blondies! They look simply amazing! I’ve saved this recipe to Pinterest and will try it during my holiday baking frenzy this year!
Sweet Home
San Diego had a frightening month. Mid-month, fires broke out across the county fueled by high winds and extraordinary high heat. First responders, firefighters and other emergency personnel did an amazing job in extreme conditions holding the fire at bay when they could and keeping the loss of homes at a minimum when encroaching fire made loss inevitable. While the danger has passed, these bloggers and sites drew my attention and are still worthy reads:
Laura at Family Spice celebrating her book release, Cooking Techniques and Recipes with Olive Oil, morphed into high anxiety over the escalating fire and she shares her experience in that post.
Dramatic CNN video on YouTube about the San Marcos fire – Residents Flee San Diego Wildfires.
Stacey at San Diego Bargain Mama – two posts San Diego Fires Evacuation Centers and Wildfire Relief Resources in San Diego County 2014 – although the current danger has passed, I’m bookmarking these posts for future reference!
Kristen at The Mommy Project San Diego – in her Monday Mashup post, she provides links to charities for those wanting to help victims of the 10 wildfires plus a dramatic LA Times photo of an elderly man fighting off the fire in his backyard.
Stephanie at Ooph – she’s just moved to a new house and her post, It’s Been a Fiery Week, filled with photos from her mountaintop vantage point are poignant, as is her post.
KPBS news story about the increased adoption of mobile communication since the 2007 Witch Creek Fire – Mobile Traffic to San Diego Websites Exploded During Wildfires.
Ready San Diego has an app – SD Emergency: The Must-Have Preparedness App. Don’t live in San Diego County? Search your local area for a similar app that alerts you in the event of an evacuation.
Wikipedia already has their page up called May 2014 San Diego County Wildfires.
And, if you missed my two posts about the fires, here are links: Alert – are you Ready? and 42 Important Papers in Your Home.
Sweet Ideas
We’re going to the Fairy Festival again this year! Jackie over at Happy Hooligans has inspired me with her Homemade Twirling Ribbon Sticks! Shhh! Don’t tell the Princesses P, but I’m making these for our fairy outing! Missed my posts on the Fairy Festival from last year? Check them out here, here, here, here and here!
Sweet Life
Elizabeth Jayne at Flourish in Progress does it again in her post How to Break Your Addiction to the Past. What do I mean “does it again”? Well, she bares her soul in only the way she can in an elegant, heart-wrecking style. She’s a writer not to miss…
Sweet Nothings
My blogging friend, Vanessa, who lives in Australia launched a series called 100 Days of Awesome. In her first post, she writes “I will keep it simple and just live an awesome life for the next hundred days.” I love this! She further shares, “instead of resenting my weaknesses, I will try to spend the next 100 days making myself stronger, both physically and emotionally.”
I’m categorizing her post under “Sweet Nothings”, not because her series is about nothing but because her 100 day posts are random and varied.
Vanessa, who just underwent a major operation about a month ago, to replace a defective lead from her heart to her pacemaker, is awesome in her own right. Writing her posts in an authentic voice that moves readers on multiple levels, did I mention that she just turned 31 a few months back?
Yes, 31 with a pacemaker/defibrillator. Sobering…
She has a heart condition called Long QT Syndrome – check out her blog; she shares her story with a strength that many can only aspire to and a truth that few acknowledge.
And, if you’ve missed my posts about Vanessa, now your chance to catch-up: Bloggy Bootcamp Revealed, Barefoot with Friends and Vanessa’s Pavlova, Vanessa’s Rainbow, Tim Tam and Vegemite.
Sweet On
For all my blogging friends out there, Amy at Blogging with Amy is one to follow. For readers who are curious about blogging, this post, Blogging FAQ, covers a lot of ground on multiple levels. Kudos to Amy for a job well-done!
Sweet Spot
Jenny, The Bloggess, makes me scream with laughter. That’s right – I said scream with laughter! Check out This bird is NOT HAVING ANY OF IT! Too funny! I have a thing for birds; I’d take him home, but I already have 136 swallows nests around my home. I think that equals 272 swallows not counting the babies that are hatching left and right. And, we have a couple hundred other birds, too. Intrigued? Check out these posts of mine here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here. Yep; I like birds.
Sweet Talk
Heather over at It’s a Lovely Life reminds us to Stop Waiting for Friday. Darn! I have a love/hate relationship with Fridays (maybe I’ll share why sometime in the future, but not today). I guess I need to do some soul-searching…
Sweet Things
Lindsay and Bjork over at Pinch of Yum are transitioning to full-time blogging. On Full Time Blogging: The End of a Chapter is her announcement of this exciting decision. A big shout-out to both Lindsay and Bjork for sharing their inspirational journey!
