The Emerald Isle – a land of wild and staggering beauty, leprechauns and their shenanigans, the lilting cadence of the Irish brogue, and Guinness – don’t we all want to be Irish for a day? To celebrate all things Irish, I’ve curated 17 Irish Blessings for St. Patrick’s Day just for you!
The above photo is of a cute, thatch-roof cottage in Bunratty Folk Park in Ireland courtesy of my friend, Becky. Becky and a couple more friends took a trip to Ireland and Scotland last year and she shared her photos with me. Thanks, Becky!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
I’m a wee bit Irish – one quarter – on my mother’s side. Her father, my grandfather, was 100% Irish. However, he was born in the United States to Irish immigrants, my great-grandparents. So, today, on St. Patrick’s Day, I’m Irish for the day! Here’s an interesting fact: about 10% of the American population, a staggering 33 million people, are of Irish descent! And, here’s another interesting fact: the Republic of Ireland has less than 5 million people (2019) and Northern Ireland, part of the United Kingdom has less than 2 million people!

Back to this collection of Irish Blessings I’ve curated for you…
Irish Blessing #1
May the luck of the Irish be with you
And a blessing of unicorns cross your way.
May you have love, laughter and friendship true
And may each new dawn be a perfect day.
-Irish Blessing
We’ll start out with an Irish Blessing above that I wrote! Yes, I wrote an Irish blessing last year and challenged readers to find it in all the Irish Blessings I scattered throughout my travelogue post, An Irish Blessing (or two). Many years ago I had the opportunity to go to Ireland with a friend and it was such a magical adventure for us that I wrote all about it on this blog.
Irish Blessing #2
May your troubles be less and your blessings be more,
And nothing but happiness come through your door.
-Irish Blessing
Irish Blessing #3
Deep peace of the running wave to you
Deep peace of the flowing air to you
Deep peace of the quiet earth to you
Deep peace of the shining stars to you
Deep peace of the gentle night to you
Moon and stars pour their healing light on you.
-Irish Blessing

Bless your little Irish heart
And every little Irish part.

Contentment latch your door,
And happiness be with you now,
And bless you evermore.
-Irish Blessing
The above photo is the inside of a thatch-roof cottage in Bunratty Folk Park, Ireland, taken on my trip to Ireland all those years ago. It had sacks of feed stashed inside and although dark inside the cottage, the small window allowed in just enough light to take this picture.
Irish Blessing #12
May your worries be slight
And your troubles few
May you always choose right
In whatever you do.
-Carole Claire Shannon
Above is the second Irish blessing written by me! I chose to use my nom de plume, Carole Claire Shannon, on this one.
Irish Blessing #13
Wherever you go and whatever you do,
May the luck of the Irish be there with you!
-Irish Blessing
Irish Blessing #14
May there always be work for your hands to do
May your purse always hold a coin or two;
May the sun always shine on your windowpane
May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain;
May the hand of a friend always be near you
May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.
-Irish Blessing
Irish Blessing #15
How sweetly lies old Ireland
Emerald green beyond the foam,
Awakening sweet memories,
Calling the heart back home.
– Irish Blessing
Irish Blessing #16
Wishing you a rainbow
For sunlight after showers –
Miles and miles of Irish smiles
For golden happy hours –
Shamrocks at your doorway
For luck and laughter too,
And a host of friends that never ends
Each day your whole life through.
-Irish Blessing
Irish Blessing #17
For each petal on the shamrock,
This brings a wish your way:
Good health, good luck and happiness
For today and every day.
