Compiling this list of 12 Favorite Quotes of 2013 was a bit of a challenge for me. You see, ALL the quotes on our blog are my favorites, so limiting this list to 12 Favorite Quotes of 2013 was problematic! But, I decided it wasn’t fair to give you a list of 42 quotes {grin} and expect that you would read them all!
I love quotes – they inspire and motivate me to be better, do better and to be more thoughtful and kinder . So, when our blog was in the R&D phase (research and development), before launching it and pushing that first “publish” button on July 28, 2012, I was pondering the names of the “categories” we should include on our blog and how to differentiate us from the crowd.
I knew I wanted to include motivational and inspirational quotes as a part of our blog on a regular basis and Tiffany agreed. With that decided, and “sweet” in the name of our blog, Sweet Talk became the category for our inspirational and motivational quotes, our holiday wishes and homage of remembrance to difficult times. We decided to publish quotes every Sunday, in addition to holidays and remembrance days.
Did you know that as of today, the last day of 2013, we have 77 quotes on our blog? Imagine that – 77 quotes! There are actually 125 posts in our Sweet Talk category, but only 77 of them are quotes.
Today, as we celebrate the end of 2013 and the beginning of 2014, here are my 12 Favorite Quotes of 2013 – one for every month:
January 2013
“If you don’t know where you’re going, you’ll end up someplace else.” – Yogi Berra
The photo above is an extremely rural area in San Diego County at a Skydiving facility. My dear friends from England, Sam and Alexandra, visited in January and skydiving was one of the things that Ali wanted to do! I wrote about their visit in the post, 42 Things to do in San Diego, so you can see more skydiving pictures there!
February 2013
“Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody’s going to know whether you did it or not.” – Oprah Winfrey
Charlie took the above photo of the Amgen Race of California as it whizzed past our house in February of 2009 (I was at work, so I didn’t get to see them {sad face}). I thought this quote was appropriate in February, with Charlie’s picture, because of the controversy surrounding Lance Armstrong in early 2013.
March 2013
“Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s Party!'” – Robin Williams
This gorgeous yellow trumpet vine burst into bloom on a fence in the rural countryside near our home.
April 2013
“Do what you do so well that they will want to see it again and bring their friends.” – Walt Disney
This out-of-focus shot was taken at Disney on Ice in January. With my new fancy, dancy camera, I’m sure I took over 1,000 photos that day! Instead of posting one “in-focus”, I thought this out-of-focus photo conveyed the feeling I was attempting to capture with this quote. This was Cinderella and her Fairy Godmother.
May 2013
“We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.” – Joseph Campbell
The above photo is of the lush rolling rural landscape near our home in San Diego County. It’s only green in the Spring!
June 2013
“That it will never come again is what makes life so sweet.” – Emily Dickinson
This gorgeous photo is a Bougainvillea bush in our yard.
July 2013
“Life should not only be lived, it should be celebrated!” – Osho
I took this flower photo at a nursery in San Diego County.
August 2013
“The two most important days in your life are the day you were born, and the day you find out why.” – Mark Twain
I took the above photo, of the side of a building in Ireland, in 2007.
September 2013
“Anything’s possible if you’ve got enough nerve.” – J. K. Rowling
Another picture of Ireland from my trip in 2007. This is a view of the ocean from The Moy House in Lahinch, Ireland.
October 2013
“There is something haunting in the light of the moon.” – Joseph Conrad
I took this picture of the moon through the leaves of a tree in our front yard, using my telephoto lens.
November 2013
“To look forward and not back,
To look out and not in,
and, To lend a hand.”
– Edward Everett Hale
I took this photo of a beautiful sculpture of a pioneer girl in Old Poway Park.
December 2013
“I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.” – Charles Dickens
An ornament on our Christmas tree this year.
And, a vertical photo for Pinterest!
BTW – in case you are wondering why I rewrite the words of the quotes in the body of this post (especially since they are already on each photos), it’s because Google’s search bots can’t read text on photographs! So, to make this particular post more “searchable”, I added typed the words into this post, too! A double-dose of motivation and inspiration!
What were your favorites quotes in 2013? I’d love to hear them in the comments sections! We could feature reader favorites throughout the year! Wouldn’t that be fun?
Happy New Year!
P.S. The two photos of fireworks aren’t photos at all! I created them in PicMonkey using a blank canvas and overlays! Easy, peasy!
Tootles,
